VBA League Rules & Regulations

Rules & Regulations

This is a SIM League intended to replicate NBA Style Play.

That means that we want to play realistic games.  As such, the following rules will be in effect ASAP, in order to induce a realistic game flow and inhibit some game exploits.

Rules Updated 4/21/2008

Conduct and Game Play:

1. No Quitting Games!

If a single player quits (or gets disconnected, except for fouling out) the game will continue but the disconnected player must be immediately subbed out and a timeout burned.  If no time outs are left you must call one any way and take a Technical Foul.  A team must maintain at least 3 human players or it will be deemed a loss by DQ, though the game must be finished for stat tracking.

2. No "Long Passing"

There is NO long passing across the half court line on the Inbound for an easy lay in or dunk- Jump shots outside the paint are allowed.  Fast breaks are allowed on missed baskets and steals and such.  You ARE allowed to make the long pass if another pass is made prior to a shot inside the paint being taken.  Reported abuse of this will result in League Action.  If a player or team is doing this, please complete the game so that we can record your stats and report it in the notes space when you submit.  Action will be taken against the team or player depending on the level of the abuse.

3. No attempting to steal or take a charge before the half court Line.

There will be no attempting to steal or take a charge before the half court line OR until another pass is made, whichever comes first.  You may press the ball handler with L2, just no pushing circle or square, or any other attempt at a Direct Steal (from the ball handler) or Charge before half court line.  You are, however, ALLOWED to attempt to jump in the passing lane to steal a pass AT ANY TIME.

4. Pausing the Game

No pausing game in the middle of a play, while a pass or shot is in the air.  A player on your team must have possession of the ball prior to pausing the game.  You must call a timeout after pausing the game.  If you have no timeouts remaining, you must call one anyway and take the tech, even if the pause was inadvertent.  ONLY the TEAM CAPTAIN should pause the game.

5. Calling Timeouts

No calling timeout in the middle of a play, while a pass or shot is in the air.  A player on your team MUST be in possession of the ball when you call a timeout.  ONLY the TEAM CAPTAIN should call timeouts.  If you call a timeout and no player on your team has possession, you MUST take a 5 second penalty on the inbound.

6. Starting an Official League Game

You may NOT start a league game with less than 5 human players on each team.  Captains should ensure that their opponent is using the correct User/Player assignments prior to starting the game.  You must complete a game with at least 3 USERS. So if one guys disconnects and two foul out, that's a DQ Loss.  If 3 guys foul out, that's a  DQ loss.  And so on.

7. Fouling Out

If a teammate fouls out, the game must be paused on that teams next possession or the next dead ball (whichever comes first) and that person's player removed from the game and a player closes to that position placed in the game.  So if a PF fouls out and the next best player is a Center, you MUST put a PF (if any) in the game and not just the next best player.  You MUST also burn a timeout (or take a tech if you have no time outs left)

8. Submitting Stats for League Games

You may not leave at the end of the game until the Captain dismisses you,  in case there is a question with your stats.  If you fail to submit stats for a game, you will get the loss by DQ.  Two failures will result in league action against your team.

9. Team Rosters

All teams SHOULD have at least 7 ACTIVE players (with player assignments and valid email addresses) on the roster.  All players must get playing time; no player can sit out more than 2 straight games in the regular season and 4 straight in the playoffs.  In the Championship Finals this rule does not apply.  You may play your best players.

Player Assignments:

1. Users must play with assigned players, No subbing, (if you get in foul trouble or injured, you are just OUT!)

2. You can NOT switch User Player Assignments on the fly.  You have to submit lineup changes for each week by Sunday, and then those players are locked for the week.  If you do switch player assignments that are to a different position, your stats will be reset.

Game Setup:
8 min Quarters
Fatigue ON
Home in HOME JERSEYS
Away in ROAD JERSEYS

If you are opposed to these rules and do not want to play realistic basketball, don't play in this league.  These rules are firm and violators will be ejected from the league.  If there is any question about violations in a game, I suggest that the two captains discuss it after the game or consult your PAC Rep.  If it is just one player violating a rule, that player will receive a minimum 2 game suspension and the roster will be locked (so he can't try to join the team under a different name) if it happens in another game the whole team will receive a DQ.

Individual Violations: if single player is in violation.
1st Rule violation: Warning.
2nd Rule violation: Game suspension consistent with violation (min 2 games).
3rd Rule violation: Booted and banned from League

Team Violations: if more than one player is in violation.
1st Rule violation: Warning.
2nd Rule violation: DQ Loss
3rd Rule violation: Team disbanded from League.

If you fail to play or get DQ’d (for roster violation) from 2 consecutive or 3 total games, your team will be removed and placed as Open.

Amendments:

1. No More Wacky Lineups.  Moving a SG to PG is one thing but there will be no putting SGs at Center and starting ALL Centers or all Guards.  You are not going to win in this league by using gimmick lineups.
