Developmental League/Free Agency Information

Effective June 15th, 2008 (No Exceptions)

Placement:

These teams, initially, were randomly selected from the list of prospects.

Then, as players apply for the draft (Free Agents), and are removed from the DL teams and placed on the Draft Board,

the players waiting for the DL league (Prospects) will be assigned to those open spots in the order that they registered and by position.

So for instance, if a center in the D-League applies for the Draft, that player is taken off of the D-League team and the next center in line is offered the position.

If you are offered a spot on a team and you turn it down, you move to the bottom of the Prospects list.

Terms

Prospects: Status Indicator "P"

New Registered Players that have not been to the D-League and can NOT be signed to any team except for the D-League teams.  Al Prospects must play at least 2 D-League games to be eligible for the draft.

Restricted Free Agent: Status Indicator "R"

Player has played the minimum 2 games but not complete the required 10 games.

These players have requested early exit from the D-League in hopes of getting drafted.

These players can only be drafted at their submitted Position and require a 1 week Inactive period before being free to play with their new team.

If the player is released back into free agency the player goes straight back to the end of the prospect list and MUST complete the 10 games,

starting over and can’t apply for early exit again.

So if after 6 games, you apply for the draft, get picked up by a team and then are released, you go back to the END of the prospects list and wait to get back in the DL AND you have to play 10 games, NOT 4.

Unrestricted Free Agent: Status Indicator "U"

Player has completed the required 10 games in the D-League and applied for the draft.

These player have NO position restriction and have NO inactive period when signed, these players can play immediately.

If signed and released these player just go back to the Draft Board.

Playing In the D-League:

Playing in the VBA D-League serves 3 basic principles.

·         By playing in official league games you gain EXP Points, experience rating points towards you SRS Draft Score along with real game experience by playing league rules and official quarter lengths.

·         When you complete your 10 game D-League stint you Obtain Unrestricted Free Agent Status.   See above.

·         Generate stats to achieve a SRS (Stats Rating Score).  This score grades you in different categories and gives you an Overall Stats Rating Score and can improve your draft value.

Getting Drafted:

Teams will select players that have the stats that they are looking for.  So, for instance, even if you are on a losing team but you have a high Rebound Rating, that might be what a team is looking for at your position, verses a player at the same position on a winning team that has a lower rebounding rating.  Also, players that play well as a team are going to be more favored because teams are going to be selecting players that compliment their teams and not necessarily players they know, everyone is NOT just looking for scorers anymore, there will start to be the demand for role players and different stats at different positions.  Teams will also take into account the team you play for and the player you are assigned to, so stats for a center on team Greece may be more weighted than a center on team Spain or team USA, for instance.  Teams will also be looking for thing like if you hold a player to 15 point but that player has averaged 30 points a game prior to your games against him.  That looks good for your defense, and that's in high demand as teams start to fill their defensive holes.  Also, outstanding players in a lot of different categories will start to get press in site articles and in the Weekly DL review.

Teams:

Releasing Players:

When a team signs a player, they sign for 1 month, 3 month or Full Season (this does not include the 7 Day inactive Period).  This becomes the duration of the Player Lock.

For example, you sign WetWilly to a 3 month deal to play Kobe Bryant, if you release WetWilly after one month, Kobe is Locked for the remainder of the term, TWO MORE Months, you can not move another player to that spot or sing another free agent until the 3 months are up.   The only exception is if the player drops out of the league, then the contract is VOID.

Roster Changes:

Roster Changes will only be done on Sunday.  They can be submitted on Saturday or Sunday, but only processes on Sunday.

Changing players results in, Stat Rests, and you must select a Contract term.

Please see League Commissioner For further Questions.
