The VBA is broken into 2 sections; VBA and VBA-DL
VBA is the Regular Team Roster – This is where the starting and reserve players play regular season games.
VBA-DL is the Developmental League Squad for each team – This is where captains can draft or sign players that may have the chance to make the starting roster. These players also play D-League games and can earn Free Agent Status and be scouted by other teams.
All Players will start as prospects; prospects can play in Stat Games sessions to build their stat history. Stat Game Sessions will be announced on the Virtual Sportz Center website and in the monthly Newsletter. Prospects can also be picked up by captains to play on the Developmental Squads; prospects cannot go directly to a VBA team roster, only a VBA-DL roster. All Players registering as VBA Prospects must submit VALID Email Addresses and should show up on League Night, Wednesdays 6:30 pm PST/9:30 pm EST as you may get to pick up a stat game or two.
Player Status:
Prospect – These are New Players with less than 10 VBA-DL games. If you are an Active Prospect and not picked up by a team, it might be a good idea to play in another league like the CBL or something so that VBA Captains can scout your stats there.
Restricted Free Agent (RFA) – Once you have played 10 games with a VBA-DL squad you will earn your RFA Status. This means that when your current contract is up with the team you are on, you can be contacted by other teams to be added to the regular VBA Roster; however, your current team has the option to match the offer and add you to their VBA Roster.
Unrestricted Free Agent (UFA) - Once you have played 20 games with a VBA-DL squad you will earn your RFA Status. This means that when your current contract is up with the team you are on, you can be contacted by other teams to be added to the regular VBA Roster and YOU have the option to choose. Your current team has NO option to match the offer and add you to their VBA Roster, unless you agree.
Players cannot move between VBA-DL squads unless they are cut. If this happens, you carry the games that you have played with you to your new team.
Active Players – There are signed players on a regular VBA Team Roster.
Moving Between Rosters on the Same Team:
Once a VBA-DL Player has played 5 games, that player can be brought up to the VBA Roster and given an open player or switched with a current player, if both players’ contracts are expired. If not, both players must agree to restructure their contracts and accept the positions.
Changing Positions:
Only Unrestricted Free Agents or players already on starting rosters may change positions. But, only between contract negotiations.
